Does religion condone violence?



All over the world people are in conflict with each other and many justify violence by citing religious texts or traditions. You and your teammates must debate the following (circle your assignment) on Friday, November 21st:


·       YES, religion does condone violence




·       NO, religion does not condone violence


In order to prepare for your debate, you will research Islam and, at least, one other religion to construct 2-3 arguments and 2-3 rebuttals (counter-arguments). You will have a team captain who will coordinate the order of your arguments on the practice day before your debate.


Standards Assessed:


Present claims and findings, emphasizing salient points in a focused, coherent manner with pertinent descriptions, facts, details, and examples; use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation.


Gather relevant information from multiple print and digital sources, using search terms effectively; assess the credibility and accuracy of each source; and quote or paraphrase the data and conclusions of others while avoiding plagiarism and following a standard format for citation.
